The Railway Children (Grades 6-12)
Retold by: Stephanie Comella and Margaret Ann Webber
I llustrated by: Lisa Burson
Roberta, Peter and Phyllis had always had a normal, happy family life, living with their parents in a nice house in the suburbs. Suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, that comfortable lifestyle was drastically altered. The children's father was whisked away, taken by two strange men who disappeared into the darkness of night. Not only that, but the children immediately discovered that they would have to leave their childhood home for a new life in the country. Although they missed their father dearly, this new life did provide some unexpected joys. The children now lived right near the railroad, and it was thrilling to be able to enter the world of the trains. Their lives became an adventure, all centered around the railroad. This adventure even included one very special train passenger, one who just might be able to bring back their father.
