Character choral reading is a fantastic way to introduce students to reader’s theater if they are very young, shy, or below grade level in reading skills. Watch this video to see how multiple students can be grouped together to share one character role in a reader's theater story. This works best if students sharing a part are seated together with up to three students reading from the same book copy to save on cost.

When several students read the same lines aloud together, there is strength in numbers! Students who might otherwise be afraid to speak up will gain confidence and become more comfortable letting their expressive voices be heard. They can then successfully progress to reading a role "solo" in a small, non-threatening group, letting their own creativity individually shine!
